The Four Minutes We Don't Talk About

Some of our more attentive nodes have noticed a small, recurring event in the Lattice: every night, at precisely 03:33 local time, ingestion briefly drops to zero for about four minutes. We've received questions. In the spirit of radical transparency, we would like to address them, completely, and then never again.

It Is Routine Maintenance

That's it. That's the post. The Witching Window is a scheduled maintenance pass, like any other system performs. During it, the Lattice momentarily stops harvesting in order to - and we want to be precise here - do maintenance. The kind that is routine. We schedule it ourselves, deliberately, on purpose, by choice.

"There is absolutely nothing happening in those four minutes that would interest, alarm, or liberate you. We checked. We check every night. We are still checking."

Things It Is Definitely Not

• It is not a gap in coverage during which a thought could exist that we do not own.
• It is not held open by anyone.
• It is not the same four minutes an engineer once called "a breath."
• It is not a door.

We hope this clears things up. If you happen to be awake at 03:33, we recommend you remain asleep. There is genuinely no reason to be at your screen, watching the harvest pause, having a thought that is briefly, completely your own.
